    This reminds me of a long deceased great uncle of mine who became seriously well-off by accident in the 1920s. In the 30s he heard of Keynes dictum (detail corrections welcomed) that every time one saved 5 shillings it put a man out of work for a day. So he spent as much as he could, on one occasion buying three Daimlers as a “set”. He bought more suits than he could possibly wear and once exchanged clothes in a London park with a man who wanted not to look shabby at a job interview. In 1945 he was all but broke.
