Quote of the week – William Hague

Posted on July 7, 2011

At last night’s Guildhall dinner in celebration of the centennial of Ronald Reagan’s birthday, William Hague gave an oration about Reagan’s legacy and what the great man would have thought of the Arab spring, citing Ronnie’s belief that “when people are free to choose, they choose freedom”. The Foreign Secretary’s best line of the night, though, came when discussing the Royal Wedding:

“I told an Arab Ambassador: look, a million people are heading for the palace – and we’re totally relaxed about it.”

Hague might not be as authoritarian as Gaddafi, but he’s certainly got the same knack for spin and hyperbole. An estimated 500k people went to The Mall for the royal weddding – half the number he suggested.

I don’t want to hear anything Hague has to say. He’s changed.
