Bin Laden goes green, and greens want to blow you up
Posted on October 10, 2010It’s been obvious for a long time that parts of the Green movement have been getting more and more hectoring and extreme in their rhetoric, their actions and their proposed policies. Theirs is an overwhelmingly anti-human philosophy – at its core is the assumption that it is humans per se who are wicked for daring to exist, to consume and to aspire to a better life.
So far they have mostly managed to clothe themselves in a cuddly exterior – but it was only a matter of time before their true nature came out. Via James Delingpole, I see that the 10:10 campaign has torn off the smiling mask with its new “No pressure” adverts. The lovely theme is that there is “no pressure” to go along with their voluntary campaign, but if you don’t then you’ll be blown up:

No doubt this had them rolling in the aisles in the 10:10 office, but it’s a massive misstep in their publicity campaign. Instead of persuasion or inclusion, it’s simply a vicious attack on people who aren’t already on their side. If you can’t afford to insulate your loft, you’ll be blown up. Nice.
Just as the UK green movement declare themselves in favour of blowing people up, in an act of poetic juxtaposition Osama Bin Laden has declared himself to be a greeny. In his latest tape (presumably titled “Now that’s what I call hatred 56″) he says:
“The number of victims caused by climate change is very big… bigger than the victims of wars.”
Obviously he’s been doing his damnedest to get wars back in the running, but it’s reassuring to know he’s on the wrong side of the green debate as well as on everything else. Maybe he was persuaded to join the, erm, crusade by 10:10′s advert?

Agreed, this is utterly mad, unless Franny Armstrong is determined to have 10:10 shut down by the end of 2010. No idea why they thought this would be useful.

Looks like a pretty malicious writhing on the floor infantile temper paddy from here. The level of delusion and arrogance inferred on the part of the perpetrators and the participants is simply off any scale of measurement. Bonkers.

War has been declared.
Does this mean that I can give in to my desire to key Toyota Prius’s whenever I see one unattended? I have managed to resist the overwhelming urge to do so to date, and hopefully I will continue to successfully suppress my wicked desire, but these cars are such ugly monstrosities. Every time I see one I am offended. Surely, as causing offence is now considered a crime, at least in the eyes of many PC, po-faced, ecofascists who would confiscate my 4×4 at the drop of a hat if they had their way, then some action on my part is justified?
Still, the old values of “live and let live” govern my actions. The greenies will just have to push the boundaries a little bit further before I, and hopefully the other tens of millions of normal, balanced people in our country decide it’s time to make a stand.

It is worse than ‘If you can’t afford to insulate your loft, you’ll be blown up. Nice.’ It actually seems to say ‘It doesn’t matter whether you can aford to insulate your loft or not, or wheter you do, what matters is that you commit to do so.’ It’s about making inaction on reducing CO2 emissions a thought-crime.

If the bloody idiots could just man up and say the truth for once it would do them much more good, just come out and say “the growing population unchecked will within our lifetimes cause mass starvation and run out of resources”. I can almost sympathise with that sentiment, but CO2 campaigns just have a stink about them.

Indoctrination of children is bad is it? That’s precisely what school is for.
“Only after the last tree has been cut down; Only after the last fish has been caught; Only after the last river has been poisoned; Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.”
The point is that nobody can be bothered to take care of the planet because it’s not in their immediate economic interest and has no immediate impact on their day-to-day lives, which is a point this film made very well.

Interesting. Well think about this: China is now the world’s largest CO2 emitter – and, as a direct result, has lifted over 300 million people out of poverty – according to a recent UN report, generating “the most rapid decline in absolute poverty ever witnessed” . So reducing their emissions is, as you say, “not in their immediate economic interest”.
So perhaps you’d support another film featuring China being subjected to nuclear attack. That would provide great opportunities for amusing and edgy footage of thousands of dead, dying, burnt, agonised and mutilated people. It would be another great “tool to get people talking about climate change” – as the 10:10 people phrased it. And, properly done, it should make your point very well.
